Contact
The fastest way to reach the project is by email. DogCalorieCalc is maintained by an independent developer, so there is no support desk — just a single inbox.
What to write about
- A coefficient or label that looks wrong — please say which dog and which field you used.
- A result that does not match what your veterinarian advised.
- A confusing sentence, a layout problem on your device, or a language issue.
- A suggestion for a factor, a life-stage row, or a food-energy option we should add.
Before you email
The calculator is an estimate built from published veterinary tables, not a diagnosis. For anything about your own dog's health — diet changes, weight loss, illness — please talk to a veterinarian. This inbox can fix the maths and the wording; it cannot give medical advice.
Common questions before you write
My result is different from what my vet said — who is right?
Your vet. The MER is an estimate built from published population tables, and the same source notes that individual animals can vary by as much as 50% from the predicted value. A vet is working from your actual animal; this tool is working from a formula. Use the number here as a starting point to discuss, not as a figure to argue with.
Can you tell me what to feed my individual dog?
No — that is a veterinary judgement, and this inbox cannot give it. What we can do is check whether the tool produced the number it should have for the details you entered, and correct it if it did not.
The food field doesn’t have my brand — can you add it?
You do not need us to. The figure is printed on the bag, and you can type it straight into the food-energy field, either as kcal per cup or as kcal per 100 g. If the bag only gives kcal per kilogram, divide by 10 to get kcal per 100 g.
Do you have a version for cats, or for other animals?
Not at present. Cats use a different set of energy factors, and there is no honest way to make one table serve both species. If enough people ask, it may be added later as a separate tool rather than as an extra row here.
Can I embed the calculator on my own site, or print it for a client handout?
Ask first. Reuse of the page and its figures is generally fine with attribution, but write in so we can tell you which version you are looking at — the coefficients get reviewed and corrected from time to time, and an old screenshot may be out of date.
Response time
This is a part-time project, so replies may take a few days. If your message is about a clear factual error in a coefficient or a source link, it will usually be fixed quickly.
